- ↑ Source:General Society of Mayflower Descendants. Mayflower Families through Five Generations, Vol. 16 (John Alden), Part 3, p. 160, says of Jane: "she is not the widow Clarke who died at Abington, 4 October 1795, ae 66; that was Bethiah wife of Benjamin Clarke... She married second at Abington, 17 December 1765 Benjamin Clarke." Huh? While this is taken out of context somewhat, it seems fatuous to say this, and then not differentiate the two Benjamin Clarkes. It is noted in this source that Abraham Burrill, Jane's first husband, died before 4 Apr 1763 when administration on his estate was granted to Woodbridge Brown, so, as mentioned, she married Benjamin Clarke in 1765. This source insists that she died "after 30 Jan 1774" when her last daughter with Benjamin was born, so clearly they found no death record. As explained on Person talk:Bethia Shaw (2), there is no sign of Bethia, the first wife of Benjamin Clark, after their child is born 1760 so it appears that Jane did indeed marry the same Benjamin Clark who had married Bethia, and so, this source notwithstanding, it was indeed Jane who died as widow of Benjamin, not Bethia. This is also suggested by the age at death, which matches Jane's recorded birth, but would require Bethia to have married at the age of 15 if it was her death record, an unlikely event.
