Facts and Events
Jan Brickers was not the son of Gerrit Bickers and Aeltje Lubbertse. Notary papers for guardianship arrangements for Gerrit's children make no mention of a son named "Jan". Only one son is named for the couple and that son was named "Victor". See record below. "(p. 125-126) By a notarial act passed Jan 2, 1664, Coenraat Ten Eyck and Boel Roelofsz had been appointed by Aaltje Lubers, then sick in bed, guardians of her son Victor Bickers eleven years old, by her marriage with her first husband, Gerrit Bicker. Said son was to be indentured to Boel Roelofsz for the purpose of learning the tailor's trade. Her deceased husband also had a daughter by a former marriage, name Tryntje Bickers. (From vol. 2 of Minutes of Orphans Court)" Jan Brickers makes his first appearance in the records when, on 3 July 1661, he and Jacob Sandersz Geln witnessed the power of attorney granted by Helmer Otten to Claes Bordingh in Beverwyck. He signed by mark: "This mark i B was made by Jan Bricker, aforesaid". |
