He was born James Goldstone, when his father died his mother changed his name to James Wetherill (her maiden name).

He smoked unfiltered Camels.

James walked hunched over, shuffling in his cowboy boots, due to a broken spine. The fracture was found in his eighties when emergency x-rays were taken. He had broken his back before 1952. The Drs were amazed that the fracture hadn't shifted and severed his spinal cord.

After his mother, Blanche, married her second husband, Edwin Swartley, he and his new step-father had a falling out. James was then taken in by Joseph and Theresa Bracken as a young man between 1910 and 1920. At this time his name changed again from James Wetherill to James Bracken Wetherill. This is how the Bracken name was added to the Wetherill Legacy.
