James Adrian Rush Torbett was born in 1858 in Rhea Springs, Tennessee. He was raised on his father's farm in Rhea Co., TN

In 1881 he married Mary Abigail Holland. James was elected Justice of the Peace in 1894 and served until 1900.

James and Abigail stayed on the farm until 1919 when he moved into Spring City and bought the Globe Drug Co. which he operated until he retired.

He also served as Road Commissioner, and County Election Commissioner. He was a member of the Baptist Church, and a member of the Kiwanis club.

James A. was known for his hospitality, and many aged relatives stayed with him in their later years.

James died in 1956 at 98 years of age, and is buried in Spring City Cemetery.
