Deed below transcribed by Pamela Downs. She also states that this deed was excecuted in Montgomery Co., AL probably just before the Jackson and Tatum families moved to Louisiana and shows the families were traveling together even before James and Virginia married.

Alexander McDade Recd for Record 9 Novem 1847 To HM Watson clk Lewis Jackson

The State of Alabama Montgomery County

Know all men by these presents that I Alexander McDade of the county and state aforesaid for and in consideration of the love and affection I have for James Alexander Tatum as also for the consideration of the sum of one dollar to me in hand paid by Lewis Jackson the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge have given granted and conveyed and hereby do give grant and convey unto the said Lewis Jackson one cream colored mare about seven years old to have and to hold the said cream colored mare and her increase should there be any in trust for James Alexander Tatum to be used by said Tatum in any way he may wish except to sell her until he comes of full age then to do as he pleases with said mare. November 9, 1847 In testimony I have hereunto set my hand and seal this day and date aforenamed.
