AKA Grosspapa. His family came to Monroe County from Kentucky (?) shortly before the Civil War. Sold their slaves before Emancipation. “Grosspapa was a merchant and peddler dealing in leather goods for horses. His stock in trade was horse collars, buggy whips, bridles, saddles and other paraphernalia associated with the horse as the engine of transport.
