Funeral Mass of Resurrection will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 16, at St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church, Ridgeway Avenue, East Stroudsburg. Private rite for committal of remains will be at sea. Born James Joseph Moye on Oct. 8, 1924, in Hazleton, to the late James and Claire (Halpin) Moye, James was a graduate of St. Gabriel's Academy, where he played as a first-string varsity player on the high school football team. After graduation, he moved to Baltimore, Md., and worked as a Riveter Helper at Maryland Dry Dock until May 1942, when he bravely enlisted in the U.S. Naval Service-Coast Guard, where he was on active duty from June 1942 through May 1945. During his military service in World War II, Mr. Moye served honorably as a corpsman in the Pacific campaign and at Iwo Jima, where he earned a Purple Heart.

Upon his return to the United States from the war, Mr. Moye moved to Newark, N.J., and worked as a production supervisor in the Bakery Department for The Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company (A&P). He resided in Newark, N.J.; Baltimore, Md.; Avenel, N.J.; and Plainfield, N.J. between 1945 and 1968, during which time he was employed as a production supervisor for A&P, Revlon and Ballantine Brewery. In 1969, he relocated to Toms River, N.J., and worked in Security Operations for Pathmark until his retirement in 1991. Always a true blue Navy veteran, Mr. Moye was a committed lifelong member of The Disabled American Veterans. He was an avid animal lover, which prompted his membership into The Best Friends Animal Society. He had also served as a member of the Ironbound Ambulance Squad in Newark, N.J., for many years.

He was the beloved father of two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth H. and Suzen V. (nee Matyas) Moye of Hardwick, N.J., and James R. and Dawn (nee Vose) Moye of Andover, N.J.; cherished grandfather of four grandchildren, Mark A. Matyas Moye of Hardwick, N.J., Gary C. and Jennifer J. (nee Viehl) Moye of Hamburg, N.J., Melissa and Shannon Moye, both of Andover, N.J.; and dear great-grandfather of two great-grandchildren, Nicholas R. and Caitlyn I. Moye, both of Hamburg, N.J.; and good friend to those around him, especially his canine pal, Lucky. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jeanne M. Moye (1987) and brother Jeremiah V. Moye (2003). In lieu of flowers, his memory may be honored with a memorial donation to: The Disabled American Veterans, PO Box 14301, Attn: Gift Processing, Cincinnati, Ohio 45250-0301; or The Best Friends Animal Society, 5001 Angel Canyon Road, Kanab, UT 84741.
