Believed to be the son of William Morrow (m. Rutha) because William’s estate documents list a son James Morrow of Douglas Co, MO. This was in 1859. Although James moved from Douglas County to Texas in 1857, he is the only James Morrow in that area, and it is easily possible that the estate administrator did not know he had moved. In addition, James settled in Texas first in Jack County and later Grayson County, both on the outskirts of Ft. Worth. Robert and Andrew Morrow (sons of Wm and Rutha), and Lewis and Taylor Morrow, grandson of William and Rutha (and with whom Rutha lived in her later years), settled in Ft. Worth about the same time, and are in fact the only other NC/MO Morrows in the area.

James first moved to Texas about 1857 or so, when he both had a child in Missouri and appears on the tax rolls in Jack County, Texas. He paid taxes in Jack County through 1864, before moving to Grayson County. He paid taxes there in 1865 and 1866, and his son Thomas was married there. About 1867, he moved south to DeWitt County, where he registered as a voter stating that he had been in the county two years and the state 10 years. He paid taxes there from 1868 to 1879, after which his wife paid the taxes on the land he owned. He purchased a substantial amount of land in DeWitt County and the surrounding area, and is recorded in DeWitt in 1880. His last recorded land transaction is in 1885 in Guadalupe County.
