James Mayo, son of Solomon Mayo, was born around 1774. In 1820 census, James was listed as forty years of age or older. He married Elizabeth Bond, daughter of John Bond. John Bond mentioned Elizabeth Mayo in his will, probated September 6,1808, North Carolina Archives Will Book A, page 32.
James served in the War of 1812, 2nd Co. (74) In 1801, James bought land from Thomas Bowen, etux. In 1809, he bought land from Martha Springle. In 1809 and 1819, he bought land from Jesse Rabason, In 1825, he bought land from Steven Owens, Sheriff. (95) In 1827, James died leaving three sons, Janles [James?] Mayo, Carney Mayo and Jeremiah Mayo. In 1837, James Mayo's estate was divided between John Mayo and Carney Mayo. Jeremiah must have died before then..
