The 1841 census shows the Hilton family in Tarvin village, just outside Chester, living at the "Church Yard"( in fact the house was part of the Grammar School of Tarvin, facing the church doorway) When James and Sarah married at St. Martin's Church, Chester, on 24th June 1816, he was called James BIBBY, schoolmaster, and she was Sarah Hammond. The St. Andrew's Church register, Tarvin, shows a gradual change of the name from Bibby To Hilton over the baptisms of the 11 children. James Hilton (the schoolmaster) died in 1850, "found drowned" age 54. His grave is still there outside his school-room door in the church yard. The family had to leave the school house and on the 1851 census are in several places.
