  1.   History of the Cochran Family by Cochran, Robert (Deaf Robert)
    c. 1730.

The history of the COCHRAN family was written by Deaf Robert about the time that some members of his family emigrated to Pennsylvania. They settled in what is now Chester County. The original document is in the possession of the Presbyterian Historical Society in Philadelphia. In his writings he mentions several Cochrans who "came" to Pennsylvania, rather than "went" indicating he may have been in PA when he wrote his later documents. His family dates all come from the manuscript.

Deaf Robert wrote of James: "He was in Trance three quarters of an hour, in which he had some discovery of Heaven and Hell and some visible sight of two persons of the Glorious Trinity the Father and the Son, but he could not so well discern the Holy Ghost. As his wife was weeping by him he said to her, hold your peace, weep not, for you and I will live fifteen years together, which accordingly was accomplished. He lived 70 years and his wife above 90 years. Before her death 42 grandchildren, 43 of her grandchildren's children and 3 of the fourth generation were born." The Old Cochran manuscript named James as the first John's youngest son who married Janet Burns, and the children he listed as William, Robert, James, John, Ninian (or Ringan), Janet and Agnes. Janet Burns was named as the wife of James, the first John's youngest son, according to the old Cochran manuscript written by Deaf Robert Cochran c1730. He also named the six sons and two daughters.

Children of James Cochran and Janet Burns are:
