James Earl Carter Sr. (September 12, 1894 – July 22, 1953) was an American politician and businessman who represented Sumter County in the Georgia House of Representatives from January 1953 until his death in July 1953. He was the father and namesake of the 39th president of the United States, Jimmy Carter, and the husband of Bessie Lillian Carter.
