At Farina, Ill., Sept. 27, 1881, from blood poisoning, caused by a cut upon the knee, James Russell Burdick, son of Russell W. and Amelia Burdick, formerly of Alfred, N. Y., aged 32 years. Born in Alfred Center, converted and baptized at the age of fourteen by Eld. Nathan Wardner, and received into the Second Seventh-day Baptist Church of Alfred. Removed to Farina, and became one of the constituent members of the Church organized there in 1866.
Married July 21, 1873, to Miss Eusebia Almira York, by Eld. Leman Andrus, at Farina. From childhood, he had a great thirst for knowledge, and for several years had been a successful teacher.
In his last hours he left the comfort to his friends that he was a Christian, and ready to die. He left a feeble companion and three children, to wait and hope for the resurrection. C. M. L.
