(Register of Soldiers from N.C. in the Am. Rev., page 605.)Army Returns, U.S. State Dept., Book 27, p. 30 shows no 45, James Brassfield, Private, enlisted July5, 1777 and served 3 years. U.S. Sate Dept. Washington Papers, Vol. 101, page 66 shows roll of capt. Benjamin Coleman's Co., in the 2nd N.C. Battaliion commanded by John Patton, White Plains, Sept. 9, 1778.

Clarissa Williams (Probably) Wm. Trammel Brassfield, b. Feb. 21, 1803; d. March 24, 1882; m. Nancy Lay. Miss Mattie E. Snail wrote that Judge John S. Brassfield, Platte Co., MO told her that the Brassfields were an English family and that the estate in England included a deer park. Wales and Ireland have also been mentioned as homes of the Brassfields. Possible legend of the 3 orginal brothers include George Brassfield who came to VA in 1698; John Edward Brassfield who in 1717 settled in the territory which became Spotsylvania Co., VA in 1720; and Joseph Leonard Brassfield who was one of the "Lord Baltimore settlers in the territory of VA."
