- founder of the Sturm family which is found in the areas of Marion and Harrison County, West Virginia
- moved into the West Virginia area in the mid 1790s
- settled at Port Martin, Monongalia County. He had previously lived in both War Springs and Cumberland, Maryland
- died 6 April 1842, buried in the McElfish Cemetery on Teverbaugh Creek, in Marion County.
