[Antietam Ancestors, Vol iii, No. 1, Winter 1989] Jacob Snowberger, son of the immigrant Hans, received property from his mother, Catherine, in 1773 and acquired from his brother Andrew in 1794 an additional two hundred fourteen acres, more or less, which he later sold to John Toms, who patented the same as "Tomstown." This tract presumably was the land on which the Tomses founded the village of Franklin, now known as Tomstown, in Quincy township. During the Revolution, Jacob served under Captain Samuel Royer in 1780, and under Captain James Young in 1781. He afterwards removed to Bedford county, and reputedly was the first Snowberger to settle in Morrison's Cove.
