Biography

"A Meek Genealogy" Containing Short Sketches of Adam Meek and His Descendants, with Portraits of Some of the Elder Members of the Different Branches by H.B. Meek, Kansas City, Missouri 1640-1902 page 8-47 page 8 Jacob Meek, son of Adam Meek, was born in Lincolnshire, England, about 1698. He came to America from England with his elder brother, John, when he was 21 years old and settled in Virginia, but soon afterwards went to North Carolina, where at the age of 22, he married a girl of Welsh descent. Quite a large family of children were born to them, whose names are as follows: Isaac, James, Lewis, Samuel, John, Jeremiah, Nathan, Seth, Joseph, Joshua, Polly, Nancy and Sarah Jane. After the death of his wife he settled in Hagerstown, Md., where some of his sons had preceded him, and a few years afterward married Nancy DuValle, a French girl. Three sons were born of this marriage. **Lewis, Jacob and *Basil. Although he followed farming, yet he was a good tailor, and it is also said he could play the violin very creditably. He died about 1790.
