[edit] Abstract of Will of Jabez TownsendWill of Jabes Townsen Logan County, Kentucky, Will Book B:73-75 Written 28 Jan 1817, proved 17 Nov 1817 I Jabes Townsen of Logan County: to my wife Mary Townsen during her natural life my dwelling house and plantation including the whole of the tract of land whereon I now live, houshold [sic] furniture & farming utensils. Also my two negro men Jacob & Jack and my three negro women Silva, Matilda & Tamar, four work horses to be kept by her durin [sic] her natural life for her own support & to raise and educate my children. I have given to my Son William Townsen one horse & Saddle, one feather Bed & furniture and a negro boy named Joe nine years old and one cow and calf. I have also given to my Daughter Elizabeth Milligin one mare & Saddle, one feather bed and furniture, one cow & calf, and one negro girl named Dinah Seven years old. I have given to my son Thomas Townsen one horse & Saddle. I have given to my son John Bailey Townsen one horse & Saddle; all of which they are to account for at a future division of my estate among all my children or their heirs. To my Daughter, Nancy Townsen my negro girl named Hannah, one feather bed & furniture, one Beast and Saddle & a cow & calf all to be delivered to her whenever she may marry or chose [sic] to leave the family and to account at their value when received. To my Daughter Anna Townsen my negro girl named Phillis, one beast and Saddle, one feather bed and furniture and a cow & calf; all to be delivered to her whenever she may marry or chose [sic] to leave the family [p. 74] and to account for the Same at their value when She receives them. To my Daughter Lucy Townsen my negro girl named Clementine, one feather bed and furniture, one beast & Saddle, & one cow & calf to be delivered to her whenever She may marry or Chose [sic] to leave the family being first of lawful age and to be accounted for as the property given to the others at a general Division of my Estate. I will that all the rest of my young negroes & the increase of the Female remain on the plantation for the purpose of being given to my Sons as they become of Lawful age and leave the family at that time I will that one young negro out of my Estate, beast & Saddle & bed and furniture be given them each and that to be accounted for at a future division. To my wife Mary Townsen in addition to other property heretofore named my whole Stock of Cattle, Sheep & hogs to be kept & used by her for assistance in Raising my children & helping them as they may become of age & ________. At the death of my Sd. wife if my youngest Son Jabes Smith Townsen is then twenty one years of age, or should She die at any time after he is of that age then my dwelling house, plantaion [sic] & the whole of my tract of Land be Sold to the highest bidder at twelve months Credit and the negroes Jacob escepted [sic] be divided by Lot at valuation all other Stock, houshold [sic] & kitchen furniture & plantation tools and utensils be sold at twelve months credit and then that there be an Equal Division of all my estate to take place between all my children, to wit: Nancy Townsen, Thomas Townsen, John Baily Townsen, William Townsen, Elizabeth Milligin, Anna Townsen, Stephen Townson, Lucy Townsen, Greenberry Townsen, Allen Townsen, James M. Townson, and Jabes Smith Townsen. Each one accounting for all the property heretofore given by me or that may be Recd. by them hereafter & before this division So that in the Last division all my afsd. Children or their heirs may have an equal Share of my estate. At the death of my wife and my son Jabes Smith Townsen becomes twenty one years, if my negro man Jacob Should then be living that he be free forever. I will that my two stills be sold at one [p. 75] years Credit to the highest bidder also the Tubs & and the money arising therefrom be applied the payment of Doctors Charges & whatever Small debts I may justly owe. I do nominate my wife Mary Towson Executrix, and my brother Light Towson, Executor.
