"1036 … Israel (Stoddard), b. 28 Apr 1741 (Stiles' Wethersfield 2:213); d. 27 Jun 1782 (Stiles' Wethersfield 2:213); m. Eunice5 Williams (#1050), daughter of Col. Israel Williams and Sarah4 Chester. He graduated from Yale College i 1758. Israel inherited land from his father land at Pittsfield, Berkshire Co. Massachusetts, where he settled after graduation. He was Major of the Berkshire Regiment of the Militia, became Justice of the Peace in 1765, and became High Sheriff of Berkshire County in 1774. However, he was a Loyalist during the Revolution and fled to New York City in 1777. Unable to leave his holdings in Massachusetts, he relented and took an oath of allegiance to the rebels' cause, enabling him to stay in Pittsfield (Yale Bios. 2:554)."
