Census: 1860 federal census Benton Co., Arkansas 1870 census, page 70, dwelling 78, family 78, Clarksvile P.O. Johnson Co., Pittsburg Township, Arkansas. The census begins with #3. Sarah 9, William 6, Sidney 2, Christina 8 month, all born Arkansas. John Smith age 68 born in TN living with them. Thomas J. Hill, born TN, was there at the time selling goods as Isaac Dixon was a merchant. 1880 census - Johnson Co., Pittsburg Township, Arkansas, page 7, dwelling 59, family 60, James Rockwell age 18 was working there. Information from Deborah Hebert. In 1877, property assessment for Isaac Dixon Owens showed that he owned: 1 horse valued at $30.00 7 meat cattle60.00 1 mule20.00 13 sheep13.00 14 hogs21.00 Rebecca's parents were found listed in a will. `Information from Deborah Hebert Land Patent for Isaac Dixon Owens, homestead certificate #2615, application 9060, issued 12/30/1882, Land office Dardanelle, Johnson Co., Arkansas, 160 acres. A petition was filed by a Mary Owens (third wife?), in which she says Isaac died on March 10, 1905. She identifies the 120 acres on which they lived, and listed the personal property they owned. It said she spent $15.15 for his funeral and $25 for the "medical bill in his last illness." She states there are no minor children. She is identified as Mary J. Owens and lists her marriage as December 13, 1896. Isaac gave his physical description in his pension application of 1903 as 5'10" tall, weight 150 pounds, gray eyes, black hair, dark complexion. Johnson Co., Arkansas, Deed Book M, Page 303, dated 11 March 1871: Roddin and Rhoda Amanda Owens sold Isaac D. Owens land for $150 Johnson Co., Arkansas, Deed Book J, Page 347, dated 1 February 1857: Isaac D. Owens bought land from Phillip and Sallie B. May for $1500 Benton Co., Arkansas Deeds, page 743, dated 17 February 1877: Isaac D. Owens and wife Mary E. Owens sold real estate to William H. Owens, son, for amount of $50 Possibly buried Nordin Cemetery. There is an unmarked adult grave beside Isaac's third wife, Mary, which might be Isaac's. Also possible burial place -- according to the Johnson Co., Cemetery location directory, there are three unmarked graves abt. 1/4 mi. N and E from Isaac's property that contain no commercial markers and no identities given. I. D. Owens' land was at Section 23, Township 9 North, Range 22 West, 160 acres, granted on December 30 1882. John Smith (father of Mary Elizabeth) received 80 acres at Section 9, T9N, R22W. (source: Walt Jenny). I.D. Owens' property adjoined Christopher C. Shandy's property on the south. |
