Isaac served in the 114th Ohio Volunteer Infantry in the Civil War. According to the Official Roster of the Soldiers of the State of Ohio he enlisted on 13 Aug 1862 at the age of 22, was a Private in the 114th OVI on 8 Sep 1862 and served in the War. He mustered out on 16 Apr 1863 at St. Louis, MO. According to the American Civil War Soldiers database he received a disability discharge from Company F, 114th Infantry Regiment. In the Civil War Pensions database on Ancestry.com there is a listing for Isaac Dunkle of Company F, 114th OVI with an Event Date as 26 Apr 1909, listing him as a Pensioner. I believe this all refers to this Isaac Dunkle.

He and his family moved west. His wife died in Daviess County, Missouri, and he moved further west. He last appears in the 1910 Census living with his daughter, Ida Dunkle Wilson, in Sedgwick, Colorado. Two of his children are buried at Riverside Cemetery in Sterling, Logan County, Colorado.
