    Ione Harriet (Sallen) Beal

On January 10, 2010, Ione Harriet (Sallen) Beal entered Eternity, completing her baptism. Ione died of a stroke after a week in a coma. Her family kept a constant vigil throughout that time and she slept away quietly. Ione was born at home in Appleton, Minnesota, on March 5, 1926. As well as being a talented pianist, Ione played the pump organ at church. She married her childhood sweetheart, Ken A. Beal, after he returned from World War II. She made a home in many locations including a railway station for the first few years of their marriage. Later they moved to Spokane and lived on the North side where they raised three children.

Ione’s hobbies and talents were many. She was first and foremost an exceptional homemaker: sewing, baking, entertaining, and home decorating were all specialties. Her friends and neighbors quickly became adopted family and she seldom met a person she didn’t like. She was a charter member of Westview Congregational Church where she taught Sunday school, played the piano, and was wedding hostess. After a fifty year commitment there, the church closed and she joined Colbert Presbyterian Church.

She joins her parents, Art and Marjorie Sallen; her sister and brother-in-law, Anita and Dale Giese; and her aunts, Florence and Veda Sallen, among others. Her legacy includes her children and spouses: her three children and spouses; her four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Ken, her husband of 63 years, and her family will miss her.

A service of Witness to the Resurrection will be celebrated on Saturday, January 16, 2010, at Colbert Presbyterian Church at 1:00 P.M. Memorials may be sent in her name to the New Hope Resource Center, 4211 E Colbert Rd., Colbert WA 99005.
