Ida Mae was born in Valley Springs, where her parents had moved to accompany her Peek grandparents, who had moved so their children could attend the Valley Springs Academy. Her grandparents eventually moved back to Tennessee, but her parents settled in Webb City. Soon after marriage, she and Carl moved to Carthage where they raised their four children. When he started Sanders Grain in 1938, she worked as a bookkeeper there for many years. [edit] Obituary"Mrs. Ida Sanders," Carthage (MO) Press, Oct. 19, 1982 Mrs. Ida Mae Sanders, 86, who resided at 1307 Grand Ave., for many years, died at 2:25 a.m. today at McCune-Brooks Hospital where she had been a patient since Sept. 28. Born June 26, 1896, at Valley Springs, Ark., she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James S. Peek. She was married April 18, 1915 in Webb City to Carl F. Sanders who preceded her in death May 24, 1979. She moved from Webb City to Carthage in November, 1915 and she and her husband opened Sanders Grain, Inc., in 1938. She worked there as a bookkeeper for many years. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Women’s Missionary Union, and taught Sunday school for many years. She was a member of the Ladies of the Lions, Missouri Federated Garden Clubs and served as state president. Surviving are a son David G. Sanders, 942 Ridgecrest Dr.; two daughters Mrs. S. E. (Nadine) Maddox, Dothan, Ala., and Mrs. Theodore (Carlene) Davis, Point Lookout; three sisters Mrs. Edna Bundy, Webb City; Mrs. Beulah Sellers, Buena Vista, Calif., and Mrs. Helen Murphy, Chattanooga, Tenn., 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A son J. C. Sanders, preceded her in death, Feb. 17, 1980. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at The Ulmer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Park Cemetary.
