Death: Hurschell G. Urie Hurschell Gottfredson Urie, age 78, died March 28, 1998 in Ogden. Born May 9, 1919 to John M. and Ruth Gottfredson Urie in Salina, Utah. He married Elva Mary Petersen on Nov. 24, 1947 in the Manti Temple. They recently celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. He grew up in Cedar City and was active in community affairs, receiving the Junior Chamber of Commerce Distinguished Service Award in 1945. He received degrees from BAC (Now SUU), U of U, and an MS degree from USU. He was an engineer at several radio stations, including KSUB in Cedar City, KSL and KALL in Salt Lake City. He retired as an Assoc. Professor at Weber State University after 29 years in Electronic Engineering Technology, 14 years as Department Chairman. He was active in the LDS Church, serving in numerous positions and as an Ogden LDS Temple worker. Throughout his life he spent much time in genealogical research, compiled family records, and wrote short histories of several ancestors. He was active in the Sons of the Utah Pioneers and the Sons of the American Revolution. He was industrious in everything he undertook and was always willing to "go the extra mile." He was an avid reader, enjoyed the outdoors and loved to spend time on the mountain ranch near Cedar City. He was devoted to his family and had a kind, friendly disposition. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Catherine. He is survived by his wife, Mary P. Urie of Ogden, UT; children: Verla Jean (Sterling) Cope of Sandy, UT; Wayne H. (Julie) Urie of West Jordan, UT; Loralyn (Brent) Felix of Cedar City, UT; and Alan T. (Mae) Urie of South Salt Lake, UT; and 20 grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers: John M. (Ollie) Urie of Kansas City, MO; T. Eugene (Inez) Urie of Cedar City, UT; and LaVon (Evelyn) Urie of Bountiful, UT. Also surviving is a foster daughter, Christine (Walt) Schnau, TX. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, April 2 at 1 p.m. in the Ogden 41st Ward Chapel, 3254 Polk Ave. Friends may call at Leavitt's Chapel of Flowers Mortuary, 836 36th Street on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the Ward Chapel on Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. prior to services. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Hurschell's name to WSU Development Fund, 4318 University Cir., Ogden, UT 84408; SUU Development Fund, Cedar City, UT 84720 or LDS Church Missionary Fund.
