Hugh married Margaret Adams. In 1846 he crossed the plains and mountains in the same caravan as his brother Jackson to a location in Oregon where he could see Mt. Hood. Later he moved over the line into Washington state, near the Columbia River, where he died. (No record of any children.) per the Dr. James L. Adams Family Bible. He is the prime ancestor of Shirley Verley of Chehalis WA.
