The Rev. Hubert E. Sias, of Cornelius, a retired Christian Church pastor who served in several Oregon cities, died of congestive heart failure Monday in a Hillsboro care center. He was 82.
A memorial service will at 11 a.m. Thursday in the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Forest Grove.
He was born April 19, 1909, in Dallas, but grew up and webt to school in Caldwell, Idaho, Forest Grove, Fossil, Vale and Elgin. He earned a bachelor's degree from Northwest Christian College in Eugene and a master's of divinity degree from Butler Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis. He married Ruth E. Thompson on March 23, 1929 in Elgin.
During the early years of his career, he served several congregations of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Grangeville, Idaho, and Clarkston, Wash. He was a pastor of a church in Forest Grove from 1942 until 1946, when he went to the Mallory Avenue Church in Portland.
In 1953, he transferred to a church in Beatrice, Neb., and later served in Yakima for about six years before returning to First Christian Church in Hillsboro. He later served in Lebanon for about five years until his retirement in the mid-1960s.
After his retirement, he was an interim pastor for Christian Church congregations throughout the West until he became fully retired and moved to Cornelius in 1982.
Survivors besides his wife include his son, Timothy H. of Aloha; daughter Cynthia R. Kubiak of Portland; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
The family suggest that rememberances be contributions to the Rev. Hubert E. Sias memorial fund, in care of the Forest Grove First Christian Church.
