Descendants of Thomas Stoughton states Homer was Major at Antietam. He was also at battle of Gettysburg as Colonel. He was wounded at Spottsylvania in 1864 and taken prisoner. "His wife was sent to interview President Lincoln and intercede in his behalf. He was paroled December, 1864, and discharged January 23, 1865."
