Abilene Reporter News, July 26, 2004 Homer D. Sanders EASTLAND - On Friday July 23, 2004 at 5:15 p.m. Homer Donald Sanders was lovingly met at the gates of heaven by his savior Jesus Christ. He left this world surrounded by his family members who bid him a temporary farewell. Graveside funeral services will be Monday July 26, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Eastland City Cemetery with Rev. Benny Hagan and Fred brown officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.. Arrangements are under the care of Edwards Funeral Home of Eastland. Homer was born on May 18, 1936 in Blackwell, Texas to O.T. and Blanche (Hill) Sanders. He married Jannie Curtis on July 1, 1961 in Carlsbad, NM. He worked in the Sahara Desert drilling for oil as a young man. Homer and Fred Brown worked together to build Granpa's Smoke House, and worked there for many years with the assistance of their wives. He then worked for Eastland City as Shop Foreman for 15 years before his retirement. Father of two daughters whom he was proud of and was a good husband to his wife Jannie for 43 years. Homer was loved and respected by many people in Eastland County. He is survived by wife, Jannie Sanders of Eastland; two daughters, Tinnia Bass of Abilene and Brenda and husband Don Lucas of Austin; two grandsons Christopher Donald Johnson of Georgetown and Matthew Lee Johnson of Austin; brother, Marvin Sanders and wife Nina of Abilene; sister, Nita McGee and husband Clenon "Slim" of Abilene; many nieces and nephews; good friends, Donna and Fred Brown, Sib and Clay Kinnard; and beloved roommate of 17 years Johnnie the cat. Memorial contributions may be made to the Corinth Baptist Church.
