Rev. Shaull Graduated from Marshall College , Virginia & attended the theo logical seminary of the Reformed Church at the same place. He was licens ed to preach by the Classis of the church 23 April 1844 & was actively eng aged in the ministry ever since, except the last three years, during th at time he preached at nine different charges. From the year 1850 to 185 4, he was agent for the Literary Institute of his church located in Tiffi n OH, for which he did effective work. He was a Pastor of the Lutheran Ch urch in Winchester, Virginia, from 1866 to 1873. Rev Shaull was a man of g enial spirit with an invunerable integrity, he believed more in princip le than in manifestation. He was conscientious in what he believed & was f aithful to his calling. For forty year she had work instructed to h im & in that work he fulfilled his destiny. He was a member of the Mason ic Fraternity & at his request was buried with the honors of the order. Re v. Shaull succeeded in raising $11,030.00 in cash & pledges from the peop le of Tiffin OH, for the building of Heidelberg College In Tiffin. The re is a tablet in one of the windows "In memory of Rev. Hirem Shaull, Past or, 1846-1852, Early Friend of Heidelberg, by Faculty & Officers of Heidel berg College". He served one year as assistant pastor at Mount Jackson, Vi rginia & one year as pastor at Fairfield OH, before going back to Tiffi n OH. He was pastor in Tiffin for six years & then became the general age nt for Heidelberg College. During the Civil War he returned to Virginia b ut came back to OH in 1870, serving several churches in the southern pa rt of the state until his retirement at Sidney, where he died & is burie d. His obituary appeared in the Shelby CO Democrat, Dated 2-27-18 83 & as it mentioned no children, only his wife, Elizabeth, that he died w ith no issues.
