Facts and Events
According to various sources, he was the son of Ruth Smart and John Myers. He and Catherine had at least 7 children: William Joe 1833- m. Catherine Parrish; Elizabeth S. 1836-1890 m1 David H. Shankland, m2? Henry C. Myers; Michael J. 1838-aft 1882 m. Nancy B. Irvin; Rebecca Susan 1840-1909 m. William Granville Irvin; George T. 1842- ; Henry Brush 1847-aft 1900 m. Miranda Parrish; and Benjamin F. 1848. It is likely they had older children as well. In the 1850 census for Nicholas Co., Kentucky, Henry Myers is 46, farmer with $1,000. Wife Catharine is 43. Their children are William J. 17; Elizabeth S. 14; Michael J. 12; Rebecca S. 10; George T. 8; Henry B. 4; and Benjamin F. 2 -- all born in Kentucky. {Nicholas Co 1850 census, p.462b, <www.rootsweb.com/~cenfiles>} In the 1860 census for Nicholas Co., Kentucky, H. V. Myers is 56, farmer from Kentucky, with $3,000 real estate and $4,100 personal. Wife Catherine is 53 and their children are George T. 19, farmer; H. B. [Henry Brush] 13; and B. F.[Benjamin] 12. Next door is M. J. [Michael J.] Myers, 23, blacksmith; with Nancy, 23. All born in Kentucky. {p.291, dwellings #120 & 121} In the 1870 census for Marengo, Nicholas Co., Kentucky, H. V. Myers is 66, farmer, from Kentucky, with $6800 real estate and $800 personal. His wife Kate is 63. In the household are [their son] Brush, 23; and [nephew by Geo. W. C.] Silas 23. Also in the household is Jno. G. Parks(?), 40, 'ret grocer?'. {p.310b} Son Benjamin F. Myers 22 is in Oakland Mills with wife Malissa; next to Thomas Myers 59 and family; and James Hilander 22 with wife and child. NOTE: I have not found son George T. after 1860 -- it is possible he died during the war. Benjamin is found in Nicholas Co. in 1880 as 'Frank Myers' with wife Mary and 6 children; as Ben F. Myers in Bourbon Co. in 1900 (wife Mary shows 6 of 7 children living) and in Fayette Co. in 1920. He died in Fayette Co. in 1924 and his death record shows parents H. V. Myers and Catherine Hedrick. |
