Henry O'Neil McEnery was born in County Limerick, Ireland, about 1785, and immigrated to the United States sometime before [date?], when he was appointed registrar in the Land Office in Monroe, Ouichita Parish, Louisiana, first settling in Petersburg, Virginia. In December 1834, Henry O. McEnery of Petersburg arranged to have shipped from Richmond to New Orleans eleven male slaves, ranging in age from 9 to 50. They were consigned to himself or Brandon McK[ill].S2 On 31 October 1850, Caroline H. McEnery was listed as the owner of four male slaves ranging in age from 7 to 35, and five female slaves ranging in age from 14 to 75.S3
