Facts and Events
Name Henry Ingram
Gender Male
Christening[1] 7 Aug 1662 Great Ponton, Lincolnshire, England
Marriage to Penelope _____
Death[2] 1716

Henry Ingram was baptised on 7th August 1662 at Great Ponton in Lincolnshire, son of a miller called Henry Ingram and his wife Mary. Henry had a sister called Mary baptised the same day. Another sister followed in 1671.

Henry's next sighting is in 1687, by which time he was married to a woman called Penelope. In 1687 they had a daughter called Ann baptised at Great Ponton. There is a gap in the Great Ponton registers between 1675 and 1686, so it is quite possible they had married there but the record of their marriage is lost. Henry's mother died in 1689. It is not clear when his father died, but an inventory for administration purposes was produced for him in 1695, indicating that he had died some time before then.

As well as their daughter Ann, it is clear that Henry and Penelope had at least two sons, John and Joseph, although baptisms for them have yet to be found.

Henry's daughter Ann married Richard Cresey in Grantham in 1708.

On 15th March 1716, Henry wrote his will. He described himself as being a miller of Harrowby, a hamlet in the parish of Grantham, lying to the north-east of the town itself. He left an income of three pounds per year to his wife Penelope, sixty pounds for his son Joseph (who was not yet 21 years old and was to receive his money when he reached that age), twenty shillings for his daughter Ann and ten shillings for his sister, who was described as Mary Roughson. The rest of his property was left to his son John.

Henry clearly died shortly after writing his will, as it proved on 2nd May 1716. He was 53 years old. No burial record has been found for Henry. Penelope survived him by sixteen years.

Christenings 1662 / Henry the Sonne & Mary the daughter of Henry Ingram & Mary his wife were baptized August the 7th 1662

This baptism has been linked to the adult Henry who was married to Penelope on the basis that it is in the same parish as that in which Henry and Penelope had their daughter baptised in 1687, and that baptism record describes him as "Henry Ingram junior", implying that there was a Henry Ingram senior. Also, the Henry who was married to Penelope was a miller, as was the Henry who left an inventory in 1695, presumably being the father of the child baptised in 1662.
