Henry Hudson was born in Center Township, Greene County, Indiana, December 4, 1854, and lived there until his death, which occurred as the result of a carbuncle, on May 13, 1903. He was the son of the late James Hudson, one of the pioneer citizens of Indiana, who departed this life last fall. The deceased was married to Amanda Hatfield in 1875, and to this union was born ten children, all of whom survive, with the mother, to mourn their father’s untimely death. The oldest son, J. M. Hudson, resides in Bloomfield, Indiana, and is at present deputy prosecuting attorney. The next son, A. M. Hudson, spent three years in the Philippine War and now resides in St. Anthony, Idaho. The others reside in Center Township near the old homestead of their father. Throughout his life he was a good citizen; honest and upright in all his dealings, kind and courteous with all whom he met and in every respect a truthful, upright and ideal man, and a host of friends and no enemies. His life was so noble and pure that all who knew him could truly say that in his character the better elements were so mixed that all the world could truthfully say that he was an ideal man. But he is gone. The cold monster of death has laid his chilly finger upon him and he has faded from our sight as fades the flowers of summer before the autumn’s frosts; but that noble life shall remain ever green in the minds and hearts of all who knew him. During his sickness everything was done fro him that could be done by his many friends and relatives, and every possible effort was made to stay the fleeting life, but all in vain, and on Wednesday morning, May 13, at 1:30 o’clock, he departed this life like one who wraps the drapery of his couch about him and lies down to pleasant dreams. The funeral services were conducted by his life long friend, Rev. J. H. Neal, on Thursday at the Flynn Cemetery where his remains were laid to rest.
