Notes from Rex Isley: All Henry W Garrett census entries are consistent with a birth year of 1840. The 1900 Census, the only census which provides the month and year of birth, lists the birth of Henry as August, 1840. The headstone on his grave reads: H. W. Garrett; birth 3-8-1850; death 12-12-1920. On 31 January 2003, I discussed the burial of Henry with Maude F Murray, born 17 May 1903. Maude is the widow of Jacob Clarence Murray, a grandson of Henry. Maude stated that the grave next to Mary Ann is the grave of Henry. We should also remember that the son of Henry, John M Garrett, was born in 1862. Given the above information, we can conclude that Henry was born in August, 1840, and his headstone is in error. Errors on old headstones are not uncommon.
