Of Buffalo and Chapinville, N Y. He moved with his parents from Hatfield, Mass to Canandaigua, New York and thence in 1800 to Buffalo where he became a prosperous merchant and fur trader, buying fur pelts from Indian trappers and selling to John Jacob Astor at a handsome profit. He took active interest in the Congregational Church and in education and philanthrophy. Later on he settled in Chapinville, N. Y. In 1834 he moved to a farm near Norwalk, Ohio, and after his death of his third wife, went to live with two of his daughters, where he died of old age.
