From Road's History and Traditions of Marblehead: "On Saturday, March 13, 1830, the first local newspaper ever established in town made its appearance. It was called the "Marblehead Register," and was published by Mr. Henry Blaney. For three years the editor struggled heroically to make the enterprise a success; but his efforts were futile, and he was obliged to suspend publication.
