Address: Address 1: Rice Twp. Address 2: Sandusky Co. City: OH State: OH For some reason, after Harriet Auxter nee Hetrick died in 1883, Henry took legal action to be named guardian of his children. As stated in the court document, the 6th of October, 1883, the sum of six hundred dollars was bound to the state of OH for the benefit, at their majority, of the children. The children at the time of the guardianship are: Charles age 18, William age 15, Ida age 14, Elisa age 11, Tilman age 7, and Perry age 2. A witness to the action was John Hetrick. Later (date unknown) Henry petitioned the Probate Court in Sandusky CO, OH to be appointed guardian of his mother, (named in court documents) Mary A. Auxter (Maria Anna nee Siegenthaler) alleging that she is an imbecile. The document states that Mary is a resident of Sandusky CO and "by reason thereof is incapable of taking care of or preserving her property", and he further represents that the whole estate of said Mary A. Auxter is as follows, to wit: Personal property consisting of chattles and notes of the probable value of 2,000 dollars and Real Estate consisting of 80 acres in Washington Township of the probable value of 1,760 dollars, the probable annual rents of which amount to about 150 dollars. The following are the only next of kin of the said Mary A Auxter: Daniel Auxter, son, Oak Harbor, OH; David Auxter, son, Lindsey, OH; John Auxter, son, Elmore, OH; W. F. Auxter, son, Lindsey, OH; Elizabeth Fought, daughter, Oak Harbor, OH; Margaret Saam, daughter, Hessville, OH; Susan Kuntz, daughter, Fremont, OH; Sarah Overmyer, daughter, Lindsey, OH. Henry hanged himself in the wagon shed on his farm at about age 65. He had been in ill health for some time, having been hospitalized for the treatment of stomach cancer shortly before his death. |
