Comments from interviews with Helen Ensinger:

"My birth certificate shows my name as Laura. I had an aunt Laura so I guess my folks could not decide, so the doctor just wrote Laura. Initially named after this aunt; Helen was the name of my father's employer."[6]

"The most significant event in my life was when I had the opportunity to play softball in Japan; I couldn't go because I was the only support of my family [at the time]."

"My parents came to California in 1912 or 1913 for a better life and because they did not like the snow and cold of Arkansas; they did not leave any diaries."

She loved gardening, especially growing orchids, and cooking, and needlework.
