All children born in Pennsylvania. Listed on 1860 Bryon, Fond du Lac Co., WI census (pg. 285) as "Hayard" (age 50) with wife, Maria (age 48), and five children--Sophronia (17), Lucinda (16), Zerin (14), Holsey (12), Delilah (3). All children born in Pennsylvania, except Delilah, born in Wisconsin. A 20 acre piece of land in Section 31 and a 40 acre piece of land in Section 32 are located for H. Jones on the 1862 plat map for Byron, Wisconsin. Mariage certificate to Meriett Brown states parents were Samuel and Esther Jones. (published in 1880): "HAYWARD JONES, Oakfield; born in the town of Vershire, Vt., in 1810, is the son of Esther and Samuel Jones, a farmer of that place; Hayward was educated in the common schools of his native place; in 1825, he moved with his people to Venango Co., town of Allegheny, Penn., and at the age of 17 he learned the carding and cloth-dressing business, and worked at it until 1834; he took up farming and continued at that until 1844; he then came to Wisconsin and bought a farm on Mound Prairie, town of Byron, of forty acres, paying $300 for it; he lived on that farm until 1874, when he came to Oakfield, buying and locating on village property, where he has made his home ever since. He married in Pennsylvania in 1835, Maria, daughter of Hannah and Perrin Ross, a farmer of that State; the children are as fillows--Esther (deceased), Lyman B., Irene E., Sophronia M., Perrin C., Holsey B., Lucinda M., Eliza (deceased), Deliliah M. Mr. Jones has been a member of the School Board of Byron, and is politically a Republican; his family attend the Methodist Episcopal Church." Death certificate says he was buried in "Brownsville". Obituary, The Daily Commonwealth, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, Tuesday, July 19 Hayward Jones, and old and highly respected citizen of Oakfield, died last evening at 8:30 o'clock. Had Mr. Jones lived until July 25 he would have been 94 years old. He was the father of nine children--six boys and three girls--all having preceded him in death excepting P. C. Jones, Fond du Lac, and Mrs. Schoonover, with whom he lived. He was a member of the M. E. church and his funeral will be held in that place Tuesday at 10:30 o'clock. |
