"It hath been on my mind to leave a few lines, my dear children, for you, in remembrance of your worthy grandfather, John Kelley, deceased, of his unwearied and repeated testimony against the multiplying sins of drunkenness.
"And also you, my dear children, be pleased and persuaded to keep yourselves unspoiled from this multiplying sin above said, and out of all other sins that multiply thereby and otherwise, and make it manifest by your care, and bearing a faithful testimony against the same, that you may not be of that unhappy number, my dear children. Call and recall to mind the flowing eyes of the mournful and distressed widows, and also the cries of the distressed, fatherless children, under the consideration of our unfortunate neighbors, being suddenly taken out of time into eternity, occasioned by hard drinking, who have deceased on sea and land, even in our harbor, as I have been sent for to take out of the water dead and drowned bodies, which have been floating from place to place, and from shore to shore, which was an awful sight to behold.
"My dear sons and daughters, observe the hour appointed to attend meetings of worship, and at the same time then and there render service due to the Supreme Being. Dear children, dear hearts, be hereby persuaded to support, maintain and keep up our little meeting, which I believe was first conducted in the truth that lived in our worthy predecessors.
"Dear hearts, keep your habitations, places and stations for the support of our worthy friends as well as for ourselves, not doubting your reward therefor, and do not take too much care for outward treasures, which is of short duration. My dear children, once more, as it lives in my mind, may the growth and prosperity of our little meeting be enlarged my dear friends and esteemed children, with flowing eyes I hereby salute you with bowels of tender love, which not I have, and do bear for and toward you. With a farewell I wish you well.
    "AMEN."
