    Hattie Odens, 80, Springfield, died Sunday (Sept. 16, 2001) at the Good Samaritan Center, Tyndall.

    Funeral service is at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Emmanuel Reformed Church, Springfield. Burial will be in the Emmanuel Cemetery, rural Springfield. Visitation is from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Wednesday followed by a prayer service at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home, Springfield.

    She was born Feb. 7, 1921, in Osceola County, Iowa, to Joe and Clara (Schaafsma) Bonsma. She attended school through the eighth grade in Osceola County. She made confession of her faith at the First Reformed Church, Bigelow, Minn. on Dec. 31, 1939. She married Joe Odens Feb. 14, 1940, at Bigelow. They moved to a farm in the Springfield area. Her husband died Feb. 21, 1958. She moved into Springfield in 1966. She was a full-time mother. She also worked at St. Mary's School and CR Industries, Springfield.

    She was a member of the Emmanuel Reformed Church where she was a member of the Willing Workers and Ladies Aid circles. She was also a Sunday School teacher. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, needlework and gardening. She had a large variety of house plants.

    She is survived by six children: Clarice (Jim) Adema, Mitchell; Jerome (Donna) Odens, Springfield; Richard (Carolyn) Odens, Harrisburg; Roseann (Marvin) Brinkman, Ramona; John (Joanne) Odens, Ferndale, Wash.; and Joleen (Sam) Bursell, Herminston, Ore.; 24 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four brothers and one sister.
