OBITUARY: January 20, 1892 Geneva Times HARVEY SANFORD AUSTIN The subject of this sketch was born in Geneva October 19th 1815 and entered into rest at I a.m. Friday morning, January 15, 1892. His birthplace was in a log cabin just beyond Myers corners and when three weeks old he was moved with his parents to the place where he died and where he lived continuously all of his subsequent life. In his youth and early life he endured with his parents all the hardships incident to pioneer life. At that time the country was new so much so that wild animals abounded. On one occasion when Mr. A. was a small boy, his mother tried to kill a bear that was attempting to rob the pig pen near the house, the husband and father being absent. Doubtless she would have succeeded, had the old flint lock worked successfully. She succeeded in scaring the bear away. When 21 years old Mr. A. married Jane Warner with whom he lived happily until death took the wife on September 16, 1884 Six c! hildren were born to them; one died in infancy, one after she reached maturity (Mrs. Simmons), Byron Austin, and Mrs. Emma Curtice, of Iowa; W. C. Austin of Painesville; Mrs Frankie Stewart and Miss Mary E. who have never left the parental home and who were the solace of there parents in their declining years. Mr. Austin United with the Baptist church, of this place, when about 25 years old, and at the time of his death had been a faithful and consistent member for over half a century. He was the senior deacon, and during his long membership held nearly all the offices in the church. His religion was of the practical sort, he was strong in faith, always cheerful and hopeful his life was an open book read and approved by all who knew him. There was no room in his heart for malice and his every day life adorned the Christian religion and honored the church. He was a good citizen, always patriotic and faithful in the discharge of every duty, public and private. He was a most devoted husband and father and a kind hearted friend. His familiar figure will be missed on our streets, his place in the church will be difficult to fill, but in the home he will be most sadly missed. The funeral was largely attended at the Baptist church last Sunday morning, Reverend Cleveland Officiating. The service were very touching and impressive.

DEATH: Died of pneumonia.
