Obituary:

Harold P. Anderson, 85, passed away at Jacksonville Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida on March 12, 2014. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Anne Louise Hurst.

Harold was born in Forty Fort, Pennsylvania on Jan. 4, 1929 to Harold and Helen Anderson.

A veteran of both the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Army, Harold received a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Syracuse University. He was a long-time employee of Bell Laboratories, where his innovations led to several patents. In later years, he developed an interest in commercial and residential landscape design—a passion which became his profession.

Harold’s career and interests summoned him to multiple cities, including Scranton, PA, Boulder, Co., Greensboro, NC, and Orange Park, FL. Lifelong friendships were born in every locale..

Harold is survived by four siblings, Agnes Slavinski of Syracuse, NY, Ted Anderson of Oswego, NY, Robert Anderson of Lewes, DE, and Peter Anderson of North Myrtle Beach, SC. In addition, he is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Bastin of Washington, DC, and Maureen Davenport of Greensboro, NC, his son, Thomas Anderson of Greensboro, NC, and five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held in Scranton, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Jacksonville, Florida, or to a Boys Town chapter of the donor’s choice.

Burial

Harold is buried at Cathedral Cemetery in Scranton, PA.
