Facts and Events
According to family members, Grace and her sister Ivy didn't marry but travelled around Australia working on outback stations, including one at Minton, Queensland, which Grace often talked about. One of the workers was so besotted with her (she was always a very attractive lady) that he asked to have a bath in her used bathwater! Grace and Ivy also worked at Royal Derwent Hospital which was a lunatic asylum at New Norfolk, Tasmania. Grace had a dress shop for years in Cygnet which may have been called the Violet Rosette. It was opposite the family bakery and apparently she wheeled her piano and carried all her stuff over the road when she moved out of the bakery and into her own place. She was quite refined and also a bit of a card and was very well known in the town of Cygnet. 1922 - Recorded in Australian Electoral Roll as Grace BROWN, Cygnet, Tasmania, draper's assistant. Grace's shop was called the Lilac Rosette. Image Gallery
