Cobb, Gershom, 1st Dea. of 1st Church of Middleborough, Aug. 28, 1781, in his 87th y. GR1 [Age 86, so born about 1695. GR1=Old Cemetery. Note: he was a deacon, not the first one.]
Gershom Cobb, choose Deacon Nov 1745; Dea. Cobb removed to Harwick.
S2, on p. 89, says Gershom's father is John Cobb, but that makes a man b. 1689 father of a man b. 1695, which seems unlikely. Consistent with this error, it also gives Gershom's birth in 1714. This is the birth date of the Gershom who was the son of John, but that clearly was not the one who was deacon, and moved to Hardwick, as is made very clear by the death records in Hardwick. While Gershom's birth does not seem to be recorded, because he named his first daughter Hope, it seem likely he is a son of Family:Jonathan Cobb and Hope Chipman (1), born just before or just after they relocated to Middleborough.
