Chester Claff wrote: George was reportedly a Scotsman but his parents and dates of events are unknown. Although perhaps in his sixties, he reportedly served in the Union Army during the Civil War. However, it has not been possible to verify this at the National Archives. George and Helena LeCount lived in a house on Lane Gate Road, Phillipstown, NY that later belonged to his son John and his wife Annie Mekeel. After the Civil War George's wife had died and he was penniless.

Kathryn adds: the 1850 census indicates that both George and wife Helena are 53 (DOB 1797) and both were born in New York. In addition one would suspect that a Scotsman would not have been named after George Washington. Perhaps his parents were from Scotland. They are unknowns.

According to : George Wallace in the New York, U.S., Town Clerks' Registers of Men Who Served in the Civil War, ca 1861-1865 DetailSource Name: George Wallace Birth Place: Ireland Enlistment Date: Sep 1864 Enlistment Location: Wallkill, Orange, New York Regiment: 56th Infantry Race: White Marital Status: Single Perhaps someone discovered this record and thought it was this George Washington Wallace, but the county and marital status are wrong and he would have been too old.
