George Stokes was baptised on 8th March 1832 at St Ippolyts in Hertfordshire, son of Mary Ann Stokes, formerly Sharpe, and her husband John Stokes, a labourer. George died as a baby, being buried less than a month after his baptism. He was said to be fifteen weeks old when he died.
