The following announcement appeared in The Philadelphia Inquirer on 7 March 1903:
“CHESTER, Pa., March 6. - Rev. George Stibbitz, Ph.D., of York, Pa., and Miss Mildred A. Murphy, of Ridley Park, were married at the home of the bride by the Rev. S. T. Linton, pastor of the Presbyterian Church. Miss Theresa Murphy, sister of the bride, was maid of honor, and Frederick Eickoff, of Philadelphia, best man. The groom is pastor of the First Reformed Church of York.”
After their marriage, George and Mildred toured Europe, returning in August 1903.
George, son of John Stibitz, was born in 1856 in Schuykill County, Pennsylvania to German immigrants. George graduated from Yale and Ursinus College. He married first Alice Schlesman, sister of Dr. C. H. Schlesman, about 1884. George was a professor of Hebrew and Old Testament theology at Ursinus College for several years until his resignation in 1895. In October 1896 he was elected pastor of the Presbyterian church in Glenolden, Pennsylvania. George’s first wife died in October 1901.
