IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN I THOMAS SMITH one of the Landgraves of South Carolina . . . .

my loving wife Mary Smith during her life and widowhood to take care and bring up my minor children as a parent and guardian, including
my son Henry Smith and my two youngest sons George and Benjamin Smith

Signed this third day of May in the year of our Lord One Thousand seven hundred thirty eight.

  4. The George Smith, son of Mary, named in the will of Thomas Smith, 2nd Landgrave, was a minor in 1738 and could not have been born before 1717. Given his age, he cannot be the George Smith who married Elizabeth Allen.
