Facts and Events
From a History of the Sapp Family, 1910 "George, son of John Sapp (21) was called Kentucky George after he had moved from Kentucky to Ohio to the vicinity of his cousins to distinguish him from those of same name. His children all lived until the youngest was 40 years old, save two children who died in infancy. From the "History of Knox County, Ohio, from 1779 to 1862," by A. Banning Norton, 1862, "Four brothers--Daniel, George, Joseph, and William--emigrated from Allegheny County, Maryland in 1806. . . . Kentucky George was a cousin who came around 1820. . . . He had 14 children" pg. 385. George Sapp was a Baptist minister and went by the nickname of Kentucky Goerge. Early settlers to Union Twp., Knox County included the Durbin, Sapp, Logue, and Arnold families. pg. 385 It is interesting that there is no mention that they were Roman Catholics or that there was a Catholic Church--other, later churches are mentioned. From "History of Knox County, Ohio: Its Past and Present, 1881" Under Union Township: "The first white people who remained permanently came to Union about 1806 or 1807. George Sapp, Sr., entered the first piece of land within the present limits of Union about 1806. He settled in the northwestern part of the township." See History of Knox County, 1881 for addition information. References
